Coaching and Mentoring
To address employee's needs for counseling, skill development, network expansion and professional mentoring, Diamond provides a variety of programs: Career Developer, Coaching, and Mentoring.
The primary support relationship for all employees is the Career Developer (CD). Assignments are based upon regions and competencies and are introduced during an employee's first week.
CDs are responsible for:
-
Assisting individuals with developing an overall career growth plan at DCI
-
Maintaining a skills profile
-
Aggregating performance reviews and recommending a rating for the annual review process
-
Delivering feedback through review summary
-
Communicating rating results and compensation information
-
Providing ongoing, long-term career guidance
Coaching relationships are focused on a skill-specific development. These relationships are typically for the short-term with a clear set of objectives. For example, an employee might find it useful to ask for coaching in presentation skills, or financial modeling. The coach could provide feedback on certain deliverables or before and after a client meeting.
Mentoring is a more holistic relationship - dealing with career issues and even personal issues in a confidential manner. Mentors are generally more senior, and can provide sage perspective and advice. While many of these relationships evolve naturally at Diamond, we also provide employees with information on the ways to best seek out a mentor.
Diamond employees are encouraged to seek out and address additional coaching and mentoring needs through our Intranet site. It provides information on how to identify and enter into a supportive relationship with a coach or mentor, and includes a published list of volunteers in both categories.
