Overview
Contrary to a widely held belief, business innovation doesn’t start with a brilliant idea, a new gadget, or even a core competence. Moreover, business innovation as opposed to invention is not necessarily about creating the Next Big Thing. Rather, business innovation is all about growth; meaning it can be breakthrough or incremental, as long as it significantly adds to the bottom line. Where innovation really starts is with a single story, or mission, that captures the imagination of an entire organization. The creation of that compelling narrative is the job of senior management.
